Join Urban Word and NYC Votes for First Draft: Civic Engagement Edition!
If you're between the ages of 13-19, and you're interested in learning how to make a change in your community both through your art as well as through action & advocacy, come join us! During this program led by fellow youth, we will work together to break down the ins & outs of the election process centering around the upcoming June City Council Primary Election. After these discussions, together we will create action steps (and poetry/hip hop) to get people in our communities to advocate for change through the electoral process.
First Draft is a free weekly open mic series, providing a safe space for artistic expression, experimentation and development across all genres. This uncensored poetry reading provides a platform for teen poets, spoken word artists, emcees, activists and scholars to share their powerful and important voices.
Free food and round trip metrocards will be given to all participants
These events are hosted by Drew Drake (UW Poet-in-Residence) and led by the Urban Word Youth Leadership Council.
